Tag You're It

Rodney over at The Journey tagged me with a book meme. So here goes....

Total books owned, ever: Personally, I have owned only about 100-200 books. Most of those are school books from college. However, if you count my wife's collection starting from those teen "Sweet Valley High" books, the count raises another 300 or so fairly easy.

Last book I bought: It's been awhile. I think it may have been "Friday Night Lights." It's the book that inspired the movie that released last year. On a interesting note, my wife grew up in that town (Odessa, TX) and I grew up in the same region. Our highschool team plays the Permium Panthers every year at least once.

Last book I read: Last one I finished was "Friday Night Lights." But, I am really close to finishing "The Witching Hour" by Ann Rice, so I'll count that.

Five Books that mean a lot to me: I have to start with the Bible. Wow, I never really considered other books meaning much to me. I mainly read fiction, so this is difficult for me. I did read "Life on the Edge" by Dr. James Dobson when I was a teen. It helped focus my desires and energies in that confusing time. I have to say "Sword of Shannara" by Terry Brooks. It is a simple fantasy book I picked up when I was about 8. However, it opened my eyes to new worlds and allowed me to escape a turbulent time in my life. I picked it up at an airport on my first trip across the country to see my mother who had just divorced my dad, gotten remarried and moved away. Not only that, it is a very long book, and greatly accelerated my reading abilities above other students. I do love "Lonesome Dove." It's a tremendous story and gives a great portrayal of Texas in the latter wild days. I list "Rocket Boys" last. It's the true story which inspired the movie, "October Sky." It's about the model rocket beginnings of now retired NASA rocket engineer Homer Hickam. Whew, that was tough.

So I'll tag some folks in another post. I hope you enjoyed.
